Do you as a person have a right to healthcare? If it is a right, then it is the government’s responsibility to ensure that you get it. If healthcare is a mere privilege, does the government have the legal right to manage how much it costs? If it is a right of the people, what is the difference between healthcare and elective medical treatment? If healthcare is simply a privilege when does it become the financial responsibility of a family to keep a child or the elderly alive?

I need to shout out to Claudia.  This morning she sent me a list of new artists, at least new to me, and I just needed to share a few of them.

First up is Marie Digby who I apparently missed somehow a while back on Weekend Edition.  If you liked Brooke White on Idol I think you will like Marie Digby. The first song I want you to here is called Fool.  It is the story of a good girl picking the bad boy and it basically going wrong.  This is the story I always would tell college girls as an excuse of why they should leave the party with me rather than tall, dark, and braindead.

Stupid for You, is a pretty good follow up to Fool

The proposed Gas Tax Holiday smells like it has been stuck up the ass of a politician for years and is only now being pulled out at election time. No matter how you try and sell the plan, the results still stink.

First there is nothing to prevent stations from simply offsetting the 18.4 cent discount by raising their prices. In fact most economists believe this will happen unless the holiday comes with a price freeze. I like that second part a lot better as a driver, than I do the Tax Holiday.

Secondly, if you figure out how much gas you use in a week the saving just don’t amount to squat. My wife and I burn about 20 gallons a week in the summer between the two of us, which is better than the average single driver who burns roughly 14 gallons. If you multiply the tax savings out over the twelve weeks we save as a family $44.16 while the average single driver will save $30.91. I know you are excited about that! Face it what can a single person or a family get for between $30 and $45. Amortized over 12 weeks you will hardly notice the difference.

Eddy Arnold, the legendary country music singer died yesterday. For the record Eddie Arnold, despite the popularity of the Google Trend is a very different person. Also Eddy Arnold is not that guy for Green Acres. Green Acres started Eddie Albert, who has been dead since 2005. While I am not a big Eddy Arnold fan I must give him his props for all he accomplished in the music business. Here’s to you Eddy!

While Eddy died yesterday, but there are still birthdays to celebrate today.

Most of the people who come to The Other Blog love music but hate commercial radio. I can sympathies with that. While many of you may notice I discover a lot of my favorite artists on NPR shows like All Songs Considered, NPR Song of the Day, or Excursions a show on my local NPR station WYSO, there is plenty more good stuff to be listened to either by turning on your radio or listening to podcasts or live streams from the stations themselves.

Here is my list of the best NPR you can listen to on your computer.

· Wait, Wait Don’t Tell Me hosted by Peter Sagal. A news quiz is always fun, but there isn’t a better one in my opinion that this one. With games like Who’s Carl This Time?, Bluff The Listener, and Not My Job which is played with a celebrity. This weeks Not My Job was played with Stephen King.

Fact in Idaho a 10 year old girl gives birth. Fact she was the victim of statutory rape maybe as young as nine. Fact the man involved is 37. Fact he is an illegal alien. Instead of this case being about the poor girl and her baby, this case is sensationalized to be about an “Illegal Aliens Raping Little Girls”

Another sign that we should be bringing our troops home is reported in this mornings USA Today. Since 2003 we have deployed more than 43,000 military personnel who classified as medically unfit for deployment. This is either a sign of the military’s macho delusions, someone just not giving a shit, or our government being out of touch with reality. I have a hard time guessing which it is.

Welcome back Idol fans. For anyone who actually watched last night’s American Idol, there should be no doubt about who is going home tonight. Here is you’re recap incase you missed it.

David Cook rocked out with Duran Duran’s Hungry Like The Wolf and Queen’s Baba O’Riley

Syesha Sang and Danced her way through Tina’s Proud Mary and looked better than she sang. She pulled Sam Cook for her second song which was technically better, but wasn’t as inspired.

Jason Castro destroyed I shot The Sheriff and Mister Tambourine Man.

David Archuleta actually gave solid performances of Stand By Me and Love Me Tender.

With 51,000,000 votes and no one being more than a million away from each other I am scared to think that people were actually voting for the train wreck that was Jason Castro. They start of with a group performance of Reeling in the Years, which sounds like crap.
