Just in time for tomorrows Idol performance I am back up and running on our new server and host.  By this time tomorrow I should also have my other blogs back up and running as well.  Thank you to all the people who sent in their comments and ideas and most importantly to Steve for his tech support.

WordPress 2.5 LiveJournal CrossPoster Plugin

Originally published at Brad's Tiny World. Please leave any comments there.

Update -

Any further blogging about blogging related issues is now done at http://www.bradtheblogboy.com for the sake of maintaining the purpose the focus of Brad’s Tiny World.

As the LiveJournal CrossPoster Plugin no longer appears to be supported by the author a workaround to support WordPress 2.5 was made by ShellyGirl a user of Google Code.

I have implemented her work around on my test blog with success. I do not know if the workaround file is stable for any version other than 2.5 so use it at your own risk. The version that works in 2.3.3 and lower is available at Google Code

I will continue to host lj_crosspost25.rar for WordPress 2.5 unless asked to remove it by the original author. Enjoy

Those who control oil and water will control the world – Digg

New superpowers are competing for diminishing resources as Britain becomes a bit-player. The outcome could be deadly

I have long been saying that it was water not oil that really matters in the world. If you have ever thought Tibet was about land you would be greatly mistaken, unless you were referring to the watershed from those mountains. There will come a time in the not so distant future when oil hits $200 a barrel, or maybe even $150/barrel that Americans decide they have had enough and make the hard switch to biofuels. I am not much of a conspiracy theorist, but I can put two and two together and know that many large corporations have been buying farm land for decades and losing money on it. That should tells me others have seen the light too.

When America refuses to pay the burden of oil, it won’t take long before we are producing most of our own fuel, as we did more than a century ago. Then let us ask what happens to the rest of the world. The hardest hit will be developing countries that often rely on food subsidies from the US. We will simply say, I am sorry there is no wheat or corn for you, because we moved our surplus production that you have relied on for decades into sorghum, switchgrass, and oilseed crops. Don’t think for a moment that Americans aren’t going to feel that pinch too. Given our habits most Americans would rather have cheap fuel, then they would a sandhich especially when the cheap bread goes to five dollars a loaf.

In some respects $5/loaf will be good for the people. years ago when government statistics were put together they gave a much higher weight to food prices when they decided what poor was. For years now food has not kept up with the price of housing, which has over taken the American budget. Of course this being the American government we are talking about, they are likely to decide that after decades of study and sitting around with their heads up their asses that the cost of housing really is what we should base poverty levels on. Coincidence? I very much doubt that, this is the US government we are talking about.

I know what some of you are thinking, so what if a bunch of people in Africa starve. Well you should care, not just because they are human beings either. Africa is not only a land of tribal peoples, but of great Muslim extremism. if you think we have the Islamicists pissed at us for our involvement in those oil rich countries, think what happens when we tell the ones we have been feeding all these years to suddenly go fuck themselves. Without water and without food, they have nothing to live for except to hurt us, and hurt us they will. They flock to terror training camps with not a holy crusade, but revenge in their hearts…

WordPress 2.5 My First tests – Broken Plugins

Originally published at Brad's Tiny World. Please leave any comments there.

Alright, my first test post after activating several plugins was a painless experience.  All my tabs were open on the post page.  This was both good and bad, as All in One SEO Pack was open and ready to use, but so was every other section requiring lots of scrolling.

The plus side is All in One SEO Pack, AutoMeta, WordPress Database Backup, Twitter Toolsgeovisit(, Technorati Tags geovisit();and ShareThis seems to work.

Bad News: LiveJournal CrossPoster, and Adhesive don’t work.

I guess it will be a while before I bother upgrading…

WordPress 2.5 My First Impressions

Originally published at Brad's Tiny World. Please leave any comments there.

My first impression of WordPress 2.5 is the admin side of things looks like they simply added a new theme changing the basic layout. Is it drastic? Not really, it will take some time getting used to it no doubt, but I don’t feel at the moment the interface is anything to worry about. The guinea pig test blog was a pretty standard 2.3.3 WordPress install on my local PC server. I simply copies the 2.5 files into the directory loaded up the local host and boom install with no problems. I am not sure I like the new layout, but that could be out of long standing familiarity with the other one. I liken the change to going from word 2003 to 2007 without horrible file extension surprises.

First image is the Dashboard

The posting page doesn’t have any real drawbacks except the expanding tabs for all your extra fields at the bottom. Simple Plus and Minus signs open these up. Which for the casual poster who rarely uses them, this won’t mean a thing. For those of us who tag, retag, use plugins like the All in One SEO Pack this will probably get on our nerves if we can’t figure a way to keep it open.

Post WP 2.5

The Manage tab is pretty much straightforward as well. For a person who is used to dealing with many browser tabs open at one, there nothing really difficult about managing WordPress
WordPress 2.5 Manage Tab

The Design Tab which used to be called Presentation might throw someone because of the name.

WordPress 2.5

On the right side of the screen you have Plugins, Settings and Users which have the new style but little functionality differences that I can see immediately.

WordPress 2.5 Settings
WordPress 2.5 User Management

All in all WordPress 2.5 works and looks pretty good, on the other hand Windows WTF Vista did too the first time I loaded it up.  I am going to play around with this for a day or two before uploading it to a working blog.  I hope to give you a full report on what this version breaks.  As always backup before doing anything.
